My Message to Students
Alaska is my home. It’s where I grew up. It’s where my kids grew up. And like any mom, I want my kids to be able to start a life and raise their kids here.
But right now, it’s getting more and more expensive to get by in the state we love.
We have had 13 consecutive years of “outmigration,” meaning more people are leaving Alaska than are coming to live here.
It’s not hard to see why: rent is skyrocketing, groceries and gas are more expensive and our current Senator doesn’t seem to care. On top of skyrocketing prices – the fish, large game, and migratory birds that used to fill our freezers are getting harder to find. Growing up – Alaska was a place of abundance. Now, we have scarcity, largely thanks to Lower 48 factory trawlers and the rigged DC system that empowers them and the corporations jacking up prices on everyday Alaskans.
The current state of politics feels like reverse Robin Hood. Millionaire and billionaire politicians are stealing from the poor and middle class, giving tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Meanwhile, your generation is being left behind, forced to pay higher prices every year.
I’m running for Senate because I believe we deserve better than that.
You should be able to afford a good life in Alaska. You deserve a voice. And you deserve to be invested in, just as previous generations invested in us. Because Alaska belongs to all of us – not the DC politicians spiking our gas prices or the greedy corporations raising healthcare costs.
The status quo isn’t working for Alaskans. As your Senator, I will fight to put Alaska first. That means:
This is not a campaign for millionaires and billionaires. This is a campaign for working people. A campaign for you, the next generation of Alaskans.
I hope you’ll join me, because Alaska belongs to all of us, and we know Alaska is worth fighting for.
