Endorsement recognizes Peltola’s pro-worker record and commitment to fighting for Alaska working families
ALASKA – Yesterday, the Alaska AFL-CIO endorsed lifelong Alaskan and former fishing boat captain Mary Peltola for U.S. Senate, citing her tireless advocacy on behalf of Alaska workers and recognizing her as the candidate who will fight for Alaska working families.
“I am so grateful to earn the endorsement of the Alaska AFL-CIO,” said Mary Peltola. “No amount of smoke and mirrors can hide my opponent’s record of raising costs and putting workers last. Alaska workers built this state, and Alaska’s next Senator, I will fight every day to put our workers first.”
“For far too long, Alaska’s working families have taken a back seat to corporate interests, with members of Congress voting for tax breaks for the billionaire class rather than passing common-sense legislation that uplifts the lives of people who work to support their families. In Alaska, the choice is clear: Mary will fight day in and day out to put the lives of workers first and will address kitchen table issues of health care, affordability, and childcare. The endorsement has been made, and the hard work begins. We will work every day from now until November to elect pro-worker candidates from the top of the ticket to the bottom,” said Joelle Hall, Alaska AFL-CIO President.
Mary has been a steadfast champion for Alaska workers, earning the Alaska AFL-CIO’s endorsement in both 2022 and 2024. She co-sponsored the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to enshrine workers’ collective bargaining rights, and stood up to her own party to fight for and secure the Willow oil project to deliver stable, good-paying union jobs to Alaska.
In the Senate, Mary will fight to cut taxes for hardworking Alaskans, increase wages for workers, and bring down the cost of groceries, gas, housing, and childcare for Alaska working families. Mary will also fight to fix the rigged system in DC that prioritizes special interests over Alaska workers and make Alaska more affordable for Alaska working families.
The Alaska AFL-CIO works on behalf of the more than 50,000 union members in Alaska to protect workers’ rights and level the playing field for working people throughout our state.
