Dozens more villages to follow as statewide grassroots momentum builds for Mary

ALASKA – Lifelong Alaskan Mary Peltola wrapped up the first leg of her expansive rural tour, talking directly with Alaskans in villages along the Yukon–Kuskokwim Delta about the issues most important to them: restoring fisheries and abundance in our oceans and rivers, lowering costs of groceries and fuel, and fighting back against a corrupt DC system that is leaving rural Alaskans behind.
“Every Alaskan deserves a voice in our government – no matter where you live, no matter how far off the road system, no matter how small the village,” said Mary Peltola. “From the Kuskokwim to Ketchikan to the North Slope, I’m going to keep showing up and listening, because it will take all of us to put Alaska first.”
Mary held community gatherings in six villages: Toksook Bay, St. Mary’s, Pilot Station, Hooper Bay, Chevak, and Scammon Bay. In each village, with an assortment of fresh food and beverages, she heard from Alaskans of every age about what they need and how to make DC work for them. Mary spoke with elders dismayed by their empty fish racks and families under gut-wrenching financial pressure who are choosing between buying groceries and heating fuel as heating fuel prices near $10 per gallon.
Dozens more village visits are planned across the state as Mary continues to build a statewide, grassroots coalition rooted in her promise to put Alaska first.
