Today, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) – the largest federal employee union in the country – endorsed lifelong Alaskan and former fishing boat captain Mary Peltola for U.S. Senate, citing her tireless advocacy for workers and record of creating stable, good-paying union jobs.

“I will always stand with Alaska workers to lower costs and raise wages, and I am so grateful to earn the endorsement of the AFGE,” said Mary Peltola. “Alaska workers deserve a Senator who will stand up to anyone to take on the rigged system in DC to make lives better for working families, not someone beholden to lower 48 special interests. As Alaska’s next Senator, I will fight every day to lower costs and put our workers first.”

Mary has been a steadfast champion for Alaska workers. She co-sponsored the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to enshrine workers’ collective bargaining rights, stood up to her own party to fight for and secure the Willow oil project to deliver stable, good-paying union jobs to Alaska, has led the fight against factory trawlers, and organized Alaskans to block the Kroger-Albertson’s merger that would have spiked grocery prices and harmed workers.

In the Senate, Mary will fight to cut taxes for hardworking Alaskans, increase wages for workers, bring down the cost of groceries, gas, housing, and childcare for Alaska working families, fix the rigged system in DC that prioritizes special interests over Alaska workers, make Alaska more affordable for Alaska working families, restore Alaska’s fisheries, and bring down energy costs by boosting oil and gas development.

Mary was also recently endorsed by the Alaska AFL-CIO.
