Today, lifelong Alaskan and former fishing boat captain Mary Peltola announced a “Call for Artists” across Alaska to submit creative work that celebrates the uniquely Alaska way of life she is fighting to protect.

“This campaign is about amplifying Alaska voices from every corner of our state, and fighting for our Alaska way of life,” said Mary Peltola. “I can’t wait to see the submissions and celebrate what makes Alaska Alaska.”

A special program of Fish Family Freedom Fund, the theme for this call is “Protecting Our Way of Life,” and Alaska artists are invited to submit work of all mediums that uplifts the voices, cultures, and landscapes that make Alaska unique, highlighting the strength, resilience, and creativity of communities from Ketchikan to Kotzebue.

Artists may apply for grants from the Fish Family Freedom Fund to support their projects, or submit completed work independently. Selected pieces will be featured in campaign exhibits, materials, events, and community outreach, culminating in a final public show this October. This call is for newly created art, selected applicants will receive grant payments for the cost of their materials, and any artist that is not selected may still participate.

Mary is building a campaign powered by Alaskans, for Alaskans: more than 10,000 Alaskans have already signed up to help elect Mary, and this call for artists is just the latest expression of Mary’s grassroots-grounded, Alaska first approach.
