Last week, Sealaska – an Alaska Native Regional Corporation representing the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples of Southeast Alaska – endorsed lifelong Alaskan and former commercial fisherman Mary Peltola for U.S. Senate, citing her tireless advocacy for Alaska’s fisheries and record of defending the Alaska way of life.
“Sealaska understands firsthand the devastating impacts of rising costs and decreasing salmon, halibut and herring runs, which is why it’s a tremendous honor to receive their endorsement,” said Mary Peltola. “I’m very thankful to have them on our side as we fight to fix the rigged system in DC to restore Alaska’s fisheries and lower costs for Alaskans.”
“Mary Peltola understands that thriving communities depend on abundance. Throughout her career, she has worked to sustain the resources, opportunities and ways of life that connect people to place,” said Sealaska. “Her leadership reflects a belief that Alaska’s future depends on healthy communities, abundant natural resources and opportunities that endure across generations. Sealaska is proud to endorse Mary Peltola for the United States Senate.”
Mary has been a steadfast champion for Southeast Alaska and Alaska Native communities. She’s toured Southeast Alaska, speaking directly with Alaskans about the issues facing them and how she will fight for them in the U.S. Senate – restoring fisheries and abundance to our oceans and rivers, lowering the cost of housing and healthcare, funding public radio, fighting for the 8(a) program, championing landless legislation, and strengthening the Marine Highway System.
In the Senate, Mary will fight to cut taxes for hardworking Alaskans, increase wages for workers, bring down the cost of groceries, ammo, gas, housing, and childcare for Alaska families, fix the rigged system in DC that prioritizes special interests over Alaska workers, restore Alaska’s fisheries, and bring down energy costs by boosting oil and gas development.
Mary was also recently endorsed by the Alaska AFL-CIO and AFGE.
