Former Dan Sullivan employee Joal Kopp: “Dan Sullivan’s years as a senator have shown me he is not the man I thought I knew then”.
ANCHORAGE, AK – In a new op-ed, a lifelong Republican – and former employee of Dan Sullivan – wrote that he would be supporting Mary Peltola in November, saying “there are times in history when loyalty to the flag must come before party loyalty” and that Mary is “clear-eyed about the situation in Washington, and willing once again to be the leader Alaska needs.”
Mary launched her campaign for U.S. Senate because politicians in Washington are putting themselves first and Alaskans behind. In the Senate, Mary will work with anyone or take on anyone – no matter their party – to make life better and more affordable for Alaska families.

Anchorage Daily News: I’m a lifelong Republican who worked with Dan Sullivan. I’m supporting Mary Peltola for Senate [Opinion]
- I’m a retired foreign service officer originally from the Kenai Peninsula, and was a Bristol Bay fisherman before going to graduate school and embarking on a 23-year diplomatic career with the U.S. Department of State.
- I spent two years of that career working for Dan Sullivan when he was the assistant secretary of state for economic, energy, and business affairs in Washington, D.C.
- But his years as a senator have shown me he is not the man I thought I knew then, at least not anymore.
- […] We need to send the strongest possible leaders to Washington. Leaders willing to fight for our constitutional checks and balances, speak the uncomfortable truth to power and stand against the tide of autocracy.
- Alaskans need not settle for more of Dan Sullivan’s acquiescence to the ongoing assault on our country’s foundations, while hoping for some crumbs from the Trump budget to come our way.
- There are times in history when loyalty to the flag must come before party loyalty. Mary Peltola is clear-eyed about the situation in Washington, and willing once again to be the leader Alaska needs. For that, she has my admiration, gratitude and support.
